Never procrastinate when it comes to seeking grants and scholarships. By securing every possible dollar, you will reduce your need for loans. Figure out a system that allows you to manage your finances and allows you to apply for things quickly.
Maintain a healthy diet. Many people gain a few pounds their first semester of college. Eat healthy and refrain from eating fast food. Stay away from fast food as much as you can. Although this may see seem like a quick and affordable solution, the pounds can slowly start to creep up on you. Also, you won’t be receiving the energy that you need in order to perform at your best in class.
Your environment may make a difference in whether or not your studying is successful. Dorm rooms tend to be too loud and busy for you to focus. Look for a quieter, more secluded area. Study areas in the libraries exist for this very reason. When all else fails, use headphones with noise-cancelling abilities.
Get enough rest. College and all-nighters go hand in hand, but it is important that you get enough rest. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to be as focused in class as you should be.
In the first semester, get at least a general education requirement to get it over with. If there is one course that is especially daunting, take it as a freshman so that you don’t have to dread it throughout your college career. You don’t want to have to take classes with the kids when you’re a senior!
